INFORMATION / TALKING POINTS

Coyote Hunting Contest, Dillon, Montana, on January 10, 11 and 12, 2014. “Dog Days of Winter Coyote Derby”.

It is hosted by Rocky Mountain Supply who sells “Everything for the farmer, rancher, and traveler”. It is also being supported and advertised by The Montana Outdoor Radio Show, that also has a webpage with paragraph length articles by several writers, including by “Angela Montana”, who seems to take a special relish in the job of writing blurbs on killing coyotes, wolves and all other wildlife.

This is the 2nd Coyote Hunting Contest in Dillon, Montana. The first one was in February 2013. As described by Angela Montana, the contest was started by Tyler Linse, a college student working at Rocky Mountain Supply. “We thought it would be a fun way to spend a winter weekend and help manage the coyotes in the area”, said Linse. Ten coyotes were killed in the contest.

Dillon, Montana is in Southwest Montana. It is just 65 miles from Salmon, Idaho, who held a Wolf and Coyote Killing Contest on December 28 and 29, 2013. Both Salmon Idaho and Dillon Montana are surrounded by national forests including Yellowstone National Park. Salmon Idaho has a population of 3000, and Dillon, Montana, 4000. Of note, Great Harvest Bread Company has its headquarters in Dillon, Montana.

From an article on dogfighting in Montana [Spectating at dogfights: Still legal thanks to…rodeo?]: “Most people know by now that killing coyotes doesn’t “manage” their numbers, proving that these folks have some catching-up to do…or that it really IS all about bloodlust.”

Of note: Great Harvest Bread Company has its headquarters in Dillon, Montana thought they are not associated with this contest.

  1. wasn’t there a big hunting lodge burned down in Montana a few years ago? Wish all of them in Montana, Idaho & Wyoming burned down.. and me wishing property damage to disable the hunter’s is wrong? No! Is it wrong, for these sociopath’s to murder innocent animals? YES!

  2. Sick to death over the constant killing of all helpless animals, STOP developing houses etc.. in their homes and natural habitat and they would never bother us. Why we as humans feel we have the right to do whatever we want and destroy these animals homes and then ultimately have to take their lives because they become a nuisance (according to people) just trying to live their lives in their homes that people stole!!!

  3. When is mankind going to realise ALL life is important, humans are a small (but cruel part) of a much bigger picture. Am horrified by this slaughter!

  4. No words exist that can truly express how vile and utterly disgusting these murders are. There is no respect for life here… no respect for earth and the beauty of life… none. No words to express how evil this is… only tears.

  5. Like all the comments here and you are supported by many all the way here in the UK. I have been doing a lot of research in general about all the animal causes across the globe and the overwhelming commentary is that we humans have to stop and re- think the sheer in humane nature of us humans. Is has gone unchecked for too many decades now and we cannot be calling our lives civilised anymore. Greed money and sheer glory seems to be what runs in the Heart of many and most corporates but the inner heart of the hundreds of millions in the majority is getting heard. You all in the wonderful US of A have great 2014 and continue your efforts – I have ascertained from my research there are a minimum 50 million humans who have joined some form of forum or charity/ opinion group and eventually that number will make the corporates and business enterprises and media think. the UK media is getting to grips with this already.

  6. So wrong that these people are allowed to kill in this way – where is justice, where is the help these creatures need so badly – name and shame these organizations that participate so that all can see who these killers are – these beautiful animals need protection

  7. Please stop the cruel torture of all animals. Please feel some kind of compassion for these animals. Please feel their pain and speake up for them and help make a differance. Thank you

  8. One day you will one by one, realize the vile and evil acts you have done to living beings. Shame on you… You teach nothing. You give nothing. You just feed your ego and kill our beautiful earth being by being. This is so wrong. And you call it a contest? As if murder were a reason to win something. Foolish and very stupid.

  9. “The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance, is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality.”
― Arthur Schopenhauer, The Basis of Morality

Every living creature on this planet has a purpose, except mankind, we take and take till there’s nothing more to take, then give nothing back.
