Save the Wolves: Support the Rights of All Animals

Here’s another timely post worth reblogging…

Make no mistake, I love wolves as much as just about anyone; yet some people practically worship them, putting them above any other species except perhaps whales and dolphins. To be sure, wolves are sacred, but there are folks who think of them as hyper-sentient—the great Northern furred land-dolphin, if you will.

I’m not for a minute denying wolves’ intelligence or adherence to an almost human-like social caste system, but I can’t get behind campaign slogans such as “Real hunters don’t hunt wolves.” I call bullshit on that. Real hunters hunt wolves, coyotes, elk, deer, prairie dogs, pigeons, pronghorn, bears, cougars, raccoons— anything and everything that moves or has ever moved. Hell, they’d probably hunt whales and dolphins if it weren’t for the Federal Marine Mammal Protection Act. Most hunters just want a target and a trophy, they don’t really care what species it is.

Granted, some hunters are more…

  1. All hunters are cowards. If they were “real” men/women they would not get their kicks from killing other animals. Put them in a room and let them kill each other– now, that would be sport! Wolves, and all other non-human lives, are victims of human greed, ego-centrism, and disregard for the other life on this planet.

  2. Hi Jim and all ETBG posters,

I’m not sure where to put this, so Jim, if you think it should go somewhere else please move it or delete it, whatever you see fit.

Is this the new “court of public opinion”? I’m not sure I’m opposed to it. Thinking… thinking…

    This broke me yesterday:
http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/columnists/gordon-keith/20140109-gordon-keith-the-real-sin-in-the-rhino-auction.ece So… Grampa Rhino can’t get a boner anymore; we must take his life. Apparently Gordon skipped his Health and Human Behaviors class the day they talked about rationalization.

    Rationalize |ˈraSHənlˌīz, ˈraSHnəˌlīz|
    verb [ with obj. ]
    1) attempt to explain or justify (one’s own or another’s behavior or attitude) with logical, plausible reasons, even if these are not true or appropriate.

My comment was deleted from the article. 🙂
“You want to talk about “sin” Gordon? Adam and Eve got ass-kicked out of the garden because of the “sin” of hubris, you stupid dick. Bible lesson No. 1: Don’t get to thinking you’re all that and a bag of chips, cuz you ain’t; just ask any tornado. If you’re going to try and sedate us with your book of fairy tales, I suggest you make an effort to understand the metaphors. You are a tool for the sociopaths and while your Jesus beard might get you laid on occasion (Looky me! I’m all growed up now!), you’re still just an approval-seeking child. Some psychotherapy might help you grow a pair. Find it under “P” in the phone book.

    And into more little pieces:
Nothing special here, just the whole attitude is inconceivable to me. The “Royal Crest” is a nice touch, eh?

Jim- For whatever reason the Rhino auction and my increasing exposure to the gleeful hunters tipped the scale for me yesterday. I am saturated. My activism on and offline is now affecting my work, health, and relationships.

This is why you may have noticed I unfollowed ETBG (I am unfollowing all my other blogs as well). I’ve been through this before, I will be back, just not sure when. I feel like a sponge, filled with the poison of human depravity. I need to get rung out and air dry for a while. My growing dismay with the anthropocentrics has giving me a fatalistic mindset and that’s a big red flag; time to retreat for a while.

Please know that your work is so very important and your influence reaches farther than you know. You are a beautiful soul with a gift- I hope you will keep sharing it. The kids need to understand the simple concepts of empathy, compassion and honor.

To everyone: keep writing your legislators, and encourage people to vote in the mid-term 2014 elections. The tea party and right-wing greedies are in office now because good people got lazy, complacent, and stayed home in 2010. http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml

    Until then,
    William

    • Thanks for the links, William. I posted two article about the rhino hunt, but this is as good a place as any for your statement. I understand completely about your reaching the saturation point in all this. We all need to step away once in a while, especially if we delve too deeply into the goings-on of groups like the Safari Club. I wish you luck in healing a fatalistic mindset. I have a hard time finding anything but that these days. Thanks for your kind words for all you do.
