  1. While attending a party recently, I got into a bit of a disagreement with some of the guests — hey they started it — coming at me for being the only vegan in the room. I don’t know what it is about being a vegan but it seems to incite people.

    Anyway.

The argument was over the Paleo Diet vs. Vegan Diet. I said that my reasons for going vegan were less about “diet” and more about compassion. However, I did lose 20 lbs, which is a byproduct of going vegan.

The couple I was debating with claimed that we “evolved from cavemen” and that “eating the Paleo diet is natural.”

So I said, “First of all, we didn’t evolve from cave men, we evolved from hominids and despite what we evolved from, why would you want to eat the way a cave man ate when their life span was 30 years, if that?”

So the woman said, “They lived through harsh conditions, hence the reason for their shorter life span.”

So I said, “Ok, Right, so in that case, if you truly want to live/eat like a caveman, might I suggest you put down that glass of wine, take your clothes off, hunt the animals you want to eat. Oh and um… you’re going to have to start eating the food you kill raw as I do not believe cave men had Wolfe Stoves.”

She shut up, but her husband then said, “Paleo is the healthiest diet — it’s the only way to eat.”

And I said, “We’ll see. Check in with me in 10 years or so when you’re doctor is putting you on a sundry of drugs to counteract all that flesh you’ve been eating.”

We then simply agree to disagree.
