Kendall Jones, 19, a cheerleader at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, set off a social media storm after she posted a series of photos of animals she killed, smiling in one picture as she hugs a lifeless leopard hanging limply from her arms.
“We remove reported content that promotes poaching of endangered species, the sale of animals for organized fight or content that includes extreme acts of animal abuse,” the company said. It did not provide specific information about the photos removed.
Comre Safaris, a company in South Africa that organizes licensed hunts, said the number of animals killed by Jones fell within a quota set by the country’s wildlife department.
Jones defended her actions, saying in a Facebook post she took inspiration from former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, a hunter and conservationist.
“How can it be possible that someone can love the earth, and take from the earth in the name of conservation? For some folks, they’ll never understand. For the rest of us … we were born that way. God Bless Teddy,” Jones said.
But criticism was heavy, with one post branding the hunts barbaric garnering 20,000 comments. More than 130,000 people signed an online petition asking Facebook to remove Jones’ photos, saying they promoted animal cruelty.
“You can see the thrill in her expression and eyes from these photos that she enjoyed the KILLING of these animals,” read one post.
Many cash-strapped African governments allow a small number of big game animals to be killed each year, using the money from the sale of hunting licenses for conservation.
The hunts are held under international guidelines meant to ensure they do not adversely affect overall species numbers.
Exposing the Big Game 
A child does not grow up and at the young teenage years have to question herself about what animal she is going to kill next? What is wrong with that picture? She claims she is doing it because the wildlife population is over run…over populated? Really? The one or two kills you make will solve that problem? Last I checked some of the dead animals she has posed with have become scarce due to poaching and senseless trophy hunting….Trying to defend herself she spoke of her efforts to help the rhino population with a “Green Hunt”…That was only one time! Once is there any mention of her participating in a “Green Hunt” and tranq’d that particular rhino…what about the other ones…I went through 25 of her pictures and when this kid should of been riding a bike and playing with dolls she was killing and posing with the dead animals…huge smile on her face…I am sorry…that is a look of a natural born killer and quite frankly not too many people I know have kids that enjoy any one thing that much…it is scary…the girl has no right to assassinate these animals for no reason what so ever…simply trophy hunting…she is not a hunter, that is an assassin plain and simple…although I am an animal advocate and wildlife lover, I understand the concept of hunting and its purpose…and would never criticize a justified hunt…but the senseless killing of an animal, and to express such pleasure over it…isn’t right, or normal by any standards…we are human beings, civilized, cultured, and need to respect the animal kingdom as long as they walk this fine earth…This girl needs to put her weapons away. She is still young, I am sure she can find something else to do in her life that would bring her just as much joy. I commend Facebook for sticking to policy and making the difficult decision of removing her photos.

I agree also! Been to Africa many times to hopefully SEE the wondrous Wildlife and it hurts me to think they are KILLED! I do NOT understand HOW or WHY? its wrong, ridiculous and not clever! MUST save these amazing animals, NOW and FOREVER! X

And using Theodore Roosevelt as an example of a conservationist? Really? In Teddy’s time there was nowhere near the issues of animal and plant extinction as there is today. We are now in the 21st Century. When will humans learn compassion for ALL life forms? I sadly fear the answer is – Never.
In my opinion, yes, we should learn compassion for all life forms, but unfortunately, most people are not too concerned with killing human babies. If people had as much compassion for them as they do for these animals, the world would be a better place.

You know, I do not agree with any kind of killing. But this takes the cake! A couple of weeks ago, I reported a video to facebook of a human killing a human. The video showed the man on his knees, and the killer putting the gun to his head, pulling the trigger and the man collapsing to the ground. Even though this was in the Middle East and during “war” I found it VERY inappropriate and offensive. Facebook refused to remove that video stating that it did not fall within their definition of extreme violence. BUT they will remove a few pictures of a cheerleader who shot some wild animals?! I think what she did was horrible but they are not videos of the whole awful thing…….the pictures do not show the entire process of killing…..What the heck is wrong with the facebook community to get outraged by this cheerleader picture and not get outraged with a MURDER???!!!
They were not just pictures of a cheerleader, but of her posing with lions and leopards she had murdered. And the majority of the Facebook community must not have seen the video of the human being murdered or they would surely have been outraged by it like you were. Now, as for what’s wrong with those in charge of Facebook, that’s another question. Their CEO is an animal murderer himself.

The sad part is that she looks as if she is only sees them as inanimate, stuffed animals, and hugging them! The lion is especially sad, because we know their numbers are dwindling. It was canned hunting. She admitted it in one of her posts. Perfect make up, spotless clothes, not a hair out of place. This stupid girl has never actually hunted. Just shot caged, tranquillized, tame animals.

I was so angry and upset when I read about this in the paper at work last week, that it affected me for a couple of days, I was really down. What makes me so fuckin’ angry and upset is for why she killed these beautiful majestic animals- was she starving and needed food fast? NO Was she in imminent danger and it was a case of kill or be killed? FUCK OFF! Bet she looked down the sight of a sniper rifle 100s of yards away, behind the metal armour of her vehicle. She did it because she thinks that life is a video came and she comes off like a sexy young Lara Croft figure and will get lots of likes and recognition. And those poor animals that were just getting on with their lives were callously shot and killed in the name of vanity.
