‘Nothing more than a thrill kill’: Humane Society asks Cleburne’s Kendall Jones to stop her big-game hunting

It’s official: For now, at least, 19-year-old Kendall Jones is The Most Famous Big-Game Hunter in the World … if, that is, we’re going by Huffington Post, FOX News, The Independent in England, every local TV station and, oh, that email I received this morning from a Norwegian journalist wanting to know how to reach the Cleburne teen who’s a Texas Tech cheerleader when she’s not hunting in Africa. Pictures of Jones and her trophies are no doubt filling your Facebook feed as you read this.

And now there’s this: The Humane Society of the United States just sent The Dallas Morning News a statement about Jones, who made her bow in the Cleburne paper Sunday before becoming an Overnight International Sensation. The missive came bearing the subject line “Statement on Texas Cheerleader Hunting Controversy.” And in it, the Humane Society’s vice president for wildlife protection, Nicole Paquette, begs Jones to lay down her arms.

“Traveling halfway around the world to shoot some of the world’s most magnificent, and threatened animals is shameful,” says Paquette. “Many of the species that Ms. Jones has killed face declining populations due to loss of habitat and poaching. Amidst this crisis, trophy hunting only adds to the threats to the survival of these iconic species and is nothing more than a thrill kill.

“Our affiliate, Humane Society International, works in the field to protect wildlife and prevent human-wildlife conflicts in Africa and around the world. Rather than pose for social media with these rare species, lying lifeless, Ms. Jones should support true conservation efforts to combat poaching and protect both animals and communities.”

Meanwhile, earlier this afternoon Jones took to her heavily trafficked Facebook page to once again insist that big-game hunting and conservation are not mutually exclusive. As proof, she points to none other than President Theodore Roosevelt.

“Our 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, has been labeled by many as the Father of Conservation,” she writes above this photo of Roosevelt on safari in 1910. “He helped create and establish the United States Forestry Service, which would later become the National Forest Service. Roosevelt created five national parks (doubling the previously existing number); signed the landmark Antiquities Act and used its special provisions to unilaterally create 18 national monuments, including the Grand Canyon; set aside 51 federal bird sanctuaries, four national game refuges, and more than 100 million acres’ worth of national forests.

“But he was a hunter too, right? He killed the same species that hunters now chase today under a mound of anti-hunting pressure. Yet, how can it be possible that someone can love the earth, and take from the Earth in the name of conservation? For some folks, they’ll never understand. For the rest of us … we were born that way. God Bless Teddy.”

Meanwhile, Jones has scrubbed from her Facebook page those photos featuring her and her trophies.

  1. She does realize that Teddy was born in 1858, right? When people had slaves, and women couldn’t vote, and the population of humans and wildlife was a tiny fraction of what it is today? What a stupid dumbass.

  2. Just one more coward with a gun. Why couldn’t she have “faced down” these fierce animals with a camera instead of a weapon? Maybe because she’s a glory seeking airhead.

Here’s a tip, Bimbo, if you want to hunt seriously dangerous animals, join the military & hunt the most dangerous of all animals – armed humans – they shoot back!

You won’t do it tho, will you. You don’t have a brave bone in your body. Just one more coward with a gun to mask their fear & inadequacies.
Don’t worry, your picture will go viral. Then everyone will know what you are & it isn’t fearless

  3. These species were not endangered when Mr Roosevelt was President. You might know this if you’d attend History Class

  4. A narcissist. Pyschopath. It would be great to have her locked up in a mental institution to spare the rest of society of her sick presence. They should lock up her parents too. They are also obviously mentally ill if they raised such a monster. An ugly one at that too.

  5. Can’t post what I want to say but I bet y’all can imagine. My imagination has been running wild! And that brings a smile to my face. I sure hope karma works fast in this case.

  6. Maybe one day Barbie will grow up and learn to value life – although I doubt it – my message to Kendall Jones is this -Once a brainless Bimbo – always a brainless Bimbo – no matter what lengths you will go to to get yourself some attention!!!!
You are lapping up the attention you are getting because you are an ego maniac – you have probably had more attention recently than in ALL your life – yeah, typical rich kid, spoiled; money is no object – but whilst your parents buy you everything money can buy – they sadly have not taught you values or to respect life – you probably also know nothing about love – and you definitely know nothing about conserving life – you may have got your name in newspapers – but you still need to learn the meaning of conservation: the protection of animals, plants, and natural resources – hunting for sport is NOT conservation – you sad pathetic plastic little girl from Texas – the largest State in the USA where they just love their trophy hunting – and their brainless Bimbos! Money can buy a lot of things – but it can never buy you love, respect or values – to me you are poor pathetic and totally devoid of soul – you are a disgrace! Carole Hughes, conservationist!

  7. Another strange, “entitled” American! Nineteen years old with guns?!
Makes you wish the Hunger Games were real! Hey, let’s have our own safari!
Go to Texas and hunt blonde American cheerleaders! They would be “thrilling”! 🙂

    • So you agree with her statement that there is ‘not enough space’ on the continent of Africa for lions, elephants, rhinos, etc? Funny, there was enough space when they were originally put here. This silly young girl is the argument for human brains not maturing before 25. She really doesn’t know what she is doing.

      • Sure, we’d like to help the starving. But we need to stop breeding as a human population, because there is ‘not enough space’ for all of us and we are crowding out other inhabitants of the planet too.

Overbreeding by humans is making all of the resources scarce – water, arable land to grow crops, and energy. We are destroying ourselves, and cannot seem to stop ourselves. It must be the failsafe switch Mother Nature put in our brains for when we get out of control. These so-called hunters who shoot from Jeeps and Land Rovers are not true hunters, just thieves and possessors.

  8. Jim, I’m speechless. What a disgrace. This ignorant woman doesn’t deserve to inhabit this planet.

I spent July 2nd in the ER Vet Hospital with 2 of my cats; currently one is struggling. If I could take away my cat’s pain, I would. If I could take on his illness I would. If he dies, I will be destroyed as I have already lost one of my 4-legged family members last December and I’m still not over it.

I could never take the life of an animal, even if it was charging after me I don’t think I could turn around and *shoot* . I do not believe I have it in me.

How can this girl pose and smile knowing she has taken an innocent life – a life that has just as much right (if not more so) to be here? I just don’t get it. Those beautiful animals had their lives snuffed out by an ego-maniac!

Every day I seem to lose more and more faith in humanity.

  9. My father i a physician. He was invited to a VIP gala and dinner. Then one man says I’m going hunting tomorrow. Then my father stands up, and ask the man and people how it does feel to shoot a fellow living being. Silenced followed….
