Police were on the scene on Monday morning after a man in his mid-twenties was shot during an elk-hunting trip in Västerbotten.
The accident took place at around 6am, when two hunting groups were out in the same area. The man who was hit likely died instantly.
“The shooter must have thought it was an elk. Now he’s suspected of manslaughter,” Kenneth Jonsson of the Västerbotten police told the TT news agency.
Fatalities have become much less common in Sweden since the 1980s, when authorities introduced a hunting exam.
In Sweden today, between one and two people are killed each year in accidental shootings while hunting.

I hope Elks are safe. Those are not fatalities, they go out to kill animals and are killed, they can stay home and nobody gets hurt

“accidental shootings while hunting” — Those aren’t accidental shootings. They accidentally hit an unintended victim, that’s all (but a much more deserving one).

An exam helped to reduce the fatalities???!!!! Bwaaahaahaaaa!!!!
Karma! Serves them right – one dead and one facing criminal charges and hopefully jail time equals two hunters less … Leave the animals alone.
Doing an exam to prevent what?? One way to prevent accidents is to not be there in the first place! Leave the Elks alone and you will be safe. I wish there are many more of these friendly accidents amongst these cold blooded killers! A little bit of justice, go and morn your killer’s death!
