MISSOULA – A Missoula man is under investigation by Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks because of a controversial Facebook posting.

“This is one of the more ghoulish, gorish, postings I’ve ever seen,” said Predator Defense Executive Director Brooks Fahy.

You have to see it to believe it – pictures of a dead wolf posted on a Facebook page titled Lobo Watch, which is an anti-wolf organization.

A written message accompanies the pictures, which were posted on Sept. 16 – recounting an Aug. 14 incident in which a man driving his wife’s van ran over two wolves.

“When we first became aware of the post, it was right away something that we knew we needed to take seriously and to look into,” FWP spokesperson Vivica Crowser explained.

FWP is investigating the incident to determine whether or not the wolves were run over intentionally.

The message on Facebook is signed by Lobo Watch’s leader, Toby Bridges, who says he was driving on Interstate 90 near the Idaho-Montana border when he saw a calf, an elk cow, and four wolves.

Bridges wrote that the wolves were going after the calf, and that he decided to let off the brake and hit the accelerator.

The post said, “I was going to save that calf,” and goes on to say he heard two distinct “thumps”. He returned to the scene to find the dead wolf and another hobbling off with a broken leg.

Crowser told MTN news that investigators are now looking for more evidence related to the incident.

“Social media in itself isn’t enough. You have to uncover more through the case as you go along and finding things – like evidence on the scene or through other witnesses,” she said.

Fahy says he believes Montana should do more to protect wolves – especially against an incident like this.

“There’s an archery season, a trapping season, and a general hunting season for wolves. And there is no season to basically run over wolves with automobiles purposely.”

  1. Investigating: How much evidence is needed? There is a confession/admission/brag and picture posting on Facebook, dead wolves? Is this a good old boy white wash attempt? WY just had wolves re-listed because there is much evidence that the state is to hostile toward wolves to manage wolves and needs a wolf conservation plan instead of a wolf jihad plan. The same can be said of Montana, Idaho, Wisconsin, and others. Wolves should never be de-listed, turned over to state management without a solid conservation plan which includes an emphasis on non-lethal management, education, extreme tolerance on public leased land, allowance for natural re-population without the absurd idea that their numbers need to be driven down. There is just too much colloquial (read redneck-yokel-hunter-rancher-state wildlife agency hatred and ignorance) in the states mentioned.

  2. Absolute abomination of justice!!! The ONLY thing humans need to manage is them selves! It is unbelievable how far “hunters” will go to fulfil their sick, perverted egos and blood-thirsty needs. So sickening! Agree with Mr.Roger….

  3. This person is not a man he is an animal and should be prosecuted as committing animal abuse! What ever could be done should be done to him! This is clearly a crime and he brags about it!
The wolves should again be listed as endangered due to the fact that they are needed apex predators who balance their environment in which they are found!

  4. Toby Bridges needs to be held accountable for his actions in the deliberate murder of two young wolves in a court of law. This ex-marine that runs an extremist wolf hating Facebook page confessed, bragged, photographed and posted four graphic photos of a dead wolf along with the make, brand and license plate of his wife’s van that was parked next to the dead wolf on his Facebook account called, “Lobo Watch.” Toby has already stated more than once that nothing further will take place with our judicial system regarding his actions regarding accelerating the throttle on his wife’s van instead of braking for the wolves. Toby Bridges believes he is scott-free and nothing more will come of this case other than making him a Facebook celebrity. He is certainly old enough to know better. Toby needs to dust off his family bible and re-read the biblical verse from Proverbs,16:18: “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

  5. I cant also understanding pervert and bloodthirsty opinion of that wolf hater. If you look at their comments then you will see a vulgar HATRED language. Nothing civilization more.

  6. Toby Bridges is killing innocent animals in our wilderness. He is invading their territory. Toby reminds me of a seasoned Marine and redneck with far too much time on his hands. He is interesting but, I wish he needs to reconsider his priorities in life. I don’t think he is a horrible person, in fact, I think he is a quite the character. He has just been running around with the wrong crowd for far too long and is starting to believe his own fan mail. Age will eventually mellow him out. I don’t think he has been inside of a church since he was baptized or at his wedding ceremony. I am praying for his salvation and for him to come to his senses and to start attending church every Sunday before it is too late. Eventually we will be all be making an appearance at church for our final journey; carried in by six burly men dressed in black suits, white shirts, black ties and a boutonnière pinned to their lapel.

  7. Bridges is human garbage. And what more proof does MT Fish and Wildlife need? Bridges admitted that he purposely ran over the wolves and bragged about it on his FB site in graphic detail. If MT Fish and Wildlife doesn’t prosecute this twisted sociopath, they are just as worthless as Bridges.

  8. Why are there no dents on the van? Why are there no blood stains on the van? Did Toby shoot the wolves and make it look like he accidently ran them over? Food for thought.
