SPARTA, N.Y. (AP) — State officials have revoked the hunting licenses of two men who shot two horses while hunting coyotes in western New York last month.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says 48-year-old Christian Smith of Phelps and 47-year-old Glenn Gosson of Fairport killed one horse and wounded another while hunting on the evening Jan. 24 in the rural Livingston County town of West Sparta, 45 miles south of Rochester.
DEC officials say both men were licensed and had permission to hunt on the land where the shooting occurred.
Both will lose their hunting privileges in New York state for three years and have been ordered to pay restitution for the horses, including the burial fee and veterinarian bills. Each man also will have to pay a $200 penalty.

So sorry for the horses and their human family. Hopefully these two wicked criminals will have a hunting accident. One of these days, the murder of animals will be punishable by death, just as is now happening to some of the wicked poacher/killers in India and Africa.

We had a little old-fashioned dairy farm down the street from my house years ago – you know, the kind that has less than 100 cows, and they actually got to mosey around outside eating grass. Well, every year some stupid hunter would shoot at least one of the cows, claiming it was a deer. Yes, because a cow and a deer look so much alike!

Unfortunately the punishment won’t help the horses, but at least the jerks can’t just walk away. Give some guys a gun and everything needs shooting.
If they’re too stupid to know a horse from a coyote, then they should be in an institution. If they are so eager to kill that they don’t care whether they shoot a horse or a coyote, then they belong in prison.
Furthermore, they should be ashamed for shooting anyone (animals aren’t things). But in these guys shame, like compassion, is lacking.
Smith is a law enforcement officer… a lieutenant working in the corrections division and remains on active duty.
He should be fired !!!
