I don’t know what you can do with people who will not follow the rules. We should assume the risks of going into the territory of wild animals and not leave our fate to their discretion. But do to so with open vehicle windows against all warnings is obvious foolhardy.
That is what I was thinking too. Apparently this place also uses baby lions as a kind of petting zoo. Unfortunately, that allows them to become more familiar with and less fearful of people or human contact (like maybe reaching in cars?). Dumb and dumber.
Here the lion would have been destroyed because people can do no wrong. News reports have been remarking on the frequency of bison encounters by tourists in Yellowstone also, but fail to make the connection that the people ought not to crowd the wildlife. This reminds me of a favorite line from a favorite story “got their oil check with a horn dipstick” if they fail to heed warnings. This was a tragic accident, and the woman should have known better, her tour guide should certainly have known better.
We also don’t think the rules apply to us in other countries either! I hope South Africa won’t cave to any pressure. The tour guide is already complaining that nobody tried to ‘help’ them during the lion incident.

Agreed. These “parks” in Africa are nothing more than open habitat zoos now. I suppose the poor lion will suffer as a result of human foolishness.

Inherent risks of tourism in the wild

Case in point: isn’t this the most screwed up thing you ever heard of? I had heard this story, but I hadn’t realized the entire story behind it!
A wolf has been killed due to repeated human error at one state’s zoo and people are outraged./I>
