4 thoughts on “What Meat Eaters Get Wrong About Vegetarians

  1. Yes, vegetarians and vegans are often called self-righteous. If not that, we will be called something else. We are fighting for the end of animal exploitation and abuse by human beings. That means at least two things that people are desperate to avoid: (1) Facing unpleasant truths (the suffering and death of the animals) and (2) having to give up something they take pleasure in or get profit from (all the meat and dairy food and the money involved in their production). When we promote animal abuse as a moral problem, that also challenges their belief in themselves as good people and criticizes the religions they believe in and adhere to. Guess we’ll have to just get used to the backlash.

  2. There’s no question that even people who do eat meat could eat much less of it. Our ancestors did not eat a lot of meat, and our ethnic foods reflect this. But with prosperity, comes bigger, better and more of everything. We cannot hold on to this unethical mindset any longer, and subject animals to such needless objectification and cruelty. The food waste in our country alone is appalling.
