Wash. man’s body found tangled in fishing lines in Idaho lake

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) – Authorities in northern Idaho have recovered the body of a Washington state man from Lake Coeur d’Alene.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says the body of 63-year-old Thomas M. Fritz of Spokane was found Monday afternoon in 35 feet of water entangled in downrigger fishing lines extending from his boat.

Deputies responded at about 1 p.m. after receiving a report that an unoccupied boat was going around in circles near the southern end of Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Sheriff’s divers investigated and discovered Fritz’s body.

Authorities say results from an autopsy and toxicology tests won’t be available for several weeks.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Fritz is the former CEO of Inland Northwest Health Services. He retired in December after leading the nonprofit for 16 years.

  1. I love these posts where the same fate is experienced by the person intending that fate for others. Justice with a capital J.

  2. Every time I hear about something like this–hunting/fishing accident–I have the same questions. Someone is killed by a shark. How many sharks are killed by people? Someone is killed by a bear. How many bears are killed by people? How many wolves are killed with no human fatalities to their credit? I would ask the same question here–how many fish, turtles, dolphins, whales are killed in fishing nets? Those millions aren’t aren’t even on our radar.
