The fires are all around us here in Spokane, and the sky is an ugly brownish grey from the smoke. There is nothing I hate more than forest fires! Unfortunately 3 fire fighters were killed last night. They are the epitome of hardworking people who do a dangerous and hard job and do not get paid enough.
But it is also difficult to hear when the news is delivered about a fire that consumed thousands of acres and “no lives were lost.” What they mean is that no human lives were lost, and that is a good thing. But do they really think that there were no lives at all in the forest? Do they really just not think . . .
I almost thought this was one of my images from the Jerusalem Fire in California. Sadly how all wild fires begin to look alike after awhile, the same destruction, the same battle, the same evacuations of livestock ahead of the fire. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

Most people only care about humans, so it seems from all the use of “We” in the non-inclusive, humans-only form.
