“Denmark’s autonomous Faroe Islands announced on Monday that they had
refused entry to a ship carrying 21 activists from the militant
conservation group Sea Shepherd who were trying to disrupt traditional
whale hunts.”
Lion kills safari guide in home of Cecil the lion

“Quinn Swales, 40, a fully qualified and experienced Zimbabwean
professional guide, was leading a group of tourists on a photographic
safari when a male lion unexpectedly charged the group, according to
Camp Hwange Zimbabwe, the company for which he worked.”

That lion is basically dead now.
A male lion ‘unexpectedly’ charged the group.
Yeah, like they’re all supposed to stay put like cardboard cutouts. I hope that Zimbabwe will be more realistic in their thinking than we are in the US, by realizing that the lion was performing his instinctive duty – protecting his pride and cubs from an intruder, and not take the life of already endangered animal. This was foolhardy on humans’ part, yet again. And I hope the animal won’t pay the price, yet again.
Well, it’s sad if they were only on a photographic expedition. We were all hoping for cameras instead of guns. I just hope they will be fair and think the lion was doing his thing as a wild animal with strangers in his habitat. But I wonder if they will figure that once the lion gets a taste of human blood/flesh” he will get even more aggressive. At least that was the excuse for Blaze’s death. I can’t help wondering if it’s just another name for revenge.
That’s our view over here, but the possibility exists at any time. Despite the line of crap Yellowstone is putting out – the fact remains that if you put yourself in harm’s way around predators by getting too close or not preparing in advance, you could get eaten. It is not an anomaly.
Experience does not help you because things can change from day to day, minute to minute.
I guess what I am trying to say is, if the possibility exists, no matter how remote, we should not take chances. I know we humans like to make predictions and forecasting, but it cannot be done with other living things’ behavior! Killing the animal does not prevent this from happening again, if policy changes such as mandatory bear spray, and keeping a required distance away are not observed.
This is why I am so disgusted with Yellowstone’s decision, because it, to my mind, was done strictly to placate visitors, and insulting our intelligence in the process. Most people know that all bears and predators potentially could eat us!
These wildlife parks in Africa have become open-habitat zoos, many of them right up against cities, and other human development–because of human overpopulation. These lions (& other animals) have had enough, and are now fighting back.

The reports I have read say (reading between the lines, and I hope I’m reading correctly) – “Our guides know the risks and accept them.”
It’s unfortunate, what any kind of ‘walking safari’ with no protection is unwise with unpredictable wildlife, especially around large predators, or any of the larger wildlife! What is wrong with people today? Whatever the human purpose is, hunting or photography, getting too close is dangerous. Experienced or not, animals can be unpredictable. So much close contact with visitors creates stress for them, in addition.
