Family members of the Maine woman shot and killed by a hunter say she was on her own land digging for gemstones when she was killed.

HEBRON, Maine (AP) — Family members of the Maine woman shot and killed by a hunter say she was on her own land digging for gemstones when she was killed.
Authorities say a 38-year-old Hebron man fatally shot 34-year-old Karen Wrentzel on Saturday morning. Officials have still not publicly identified the man, and did not say if he was on Wrentzel’s land when he shot her.
The Maine Warden Service concurred that Wrentzel was not hunting at the time, and had no affiliation with the shooter — who officials say was hunting with his father.
The warden service is investigating the shooting and says it is working with the Maine Attorney General’s Office on the case.
Mother Debbie Morin says Wrentzel didn’t know Saturday was opening day for hunting season in Maine.

I wonder why we have yet to learn the name of the hunter that shot and killed Karen Wrentzel who was innocently enjoying her private land and her life. What right to privacy does an adult have after wantonly killing a human? What species was the killer aiming at? Perhaps Karen was a squirrel or coyote, a neighbor’s roaming cat, or other vermin, and he was just adjusting his scope. Or, was Ms. Wrentzel a trophy buck, one that would have the boys talking about the magnificent trophy, and all the great hormone-free
organic meat that would keep the hunter’s family provisioned for the winter?
I am saddened by the hell wreaked on the Wrentzel family by another hunter that takes no responsibility to be damned sure of his target. But, the unnamed hunter is alive and able to hide behind his hunting tag, protected by the hunting fraternity. It’s a tragedy that Ms Wrentzel didn’t have a good guy with a gun to protect her.
