Why would anyone of sound mind think that shooting poachers would be extreme? Humans get executed by their governments around the world every day for far less odious crimes. Personally, I’d buy a raffle ticket to be the one that pulls the trigger. Accepting the murderous acts of those destroying the planet with a sigh or impotent handwringing but recoiling at eliminating the vermin responsible for the carnage betrays the most effete form of either sentimentality or speciesism.
I agree. Human beings have gotten by with so much because of their “superiority” that any imposition on their use of animals is an insult, never mind actual harm to their precious persons. There are too few rhinos and too many people. I base my “shoot” rule on that.
There may be no other alternative if we want to save these last rhinos from extinction. Plus, they threaten the park rangers who protect them.
It’s horrifying to me that these animals are not even safe in zoos anymore. But people value human life over any animal life, no matter how criminal. I don’t hold out a lot of hope for us to save them, but I know some will do their damndest to save them.
Signed. I know it sounds extreme, but maybe shooting poachers when they’re caught in the act would help.

Yes. We don’t even value endangered species in zoos enough to protect them from clueless zoo staff and irresponsible visitors.
I guess I’ll never get over Harambe:(

I agree with Geoff and could not have said it better.
