Yes, there have been minority voices, such as Pythagoras, Buddha, Mahavira, Leonardo DiVinci, Tolstoy, and Gandhi, etc., who counseled compassion. But that compassion and would come with sacrifice. With all our claims to superiority, we are sadly lacking in the empathy and self-denial the minority voices call for.
