Signed. We had six gorgeous swans in a park too. People killed all of them. The female was battered to death. One cygnet was killed while small. A grown cygnet was run over. The two remaining cygnets were run down together. One made it back to the pond missing most of one of her legs. Wild life veterinarians were unable to save her. Then the big cob was found in the park, battered but still alive. He survived treatment but was neurologically damaged and remained in the care of the clinic’s rehab specialist. However, he died not long after in her care.
The park department had no business having the swans. They did not provide feeders for them and just dumped a bowl of cracked corn in the pond so way the swans could reach into the water with their long necks and manager to keep ducks from getting all of it. Toward the end of their lives the swans were left all winter in a mostly frozen pond, struggling to get up on the ice. I brought grain into them, along with their favorite food, romaine lettuce. But it was a disgrace to leave them in the open as ornaments and photo shots, at the mercy of the human misfits out running around.
