NEWPORT, Wash – An eastern Washington man who killed two wolves has been fined more than $8,000.
Terry Leroy Fowler, 55, of Liberty Lake received the fine Thursday in Pend Oreille County District Court. He pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful taking of endangered wildlife.
Authorities began investigating the wolf deaths in Pend Oreille County in early 2016 and ultimately searched Fowler’s cabin and home.
Investigators say they found evidence of wolf trapping, wolf hair and two wolf skulls.
Fowler will have to spend 30 days under home electronic monitoring, but a 364-day jail sentence was suspended.
Washington state lists wolves as endangered throughout the state. Under federal law, wolves are listed as endangered in the western two-thirds of the state.

Naturally the jail term was suspended. Hardly sends the right message. Sometimes I wonder if the judges don’t think the killing is that big a deal or they fear hunter backlash. A lot of people around this part of the country don’t want to be “wolf lovers.”
I am glad that these people are being caught though. Ha. Now he’ll know what it’s like to be collared with an electronic device.
I agree. I think feel safe, especially about killing wolves.
collared and big fine ..! ok better than nothing but of course jail sentence shouldn’t have been suspended..these wolves are precious ! he’s a poacher and butcher obviously
Why the hell was his jail time suspended? Such BS. I’m so tired of this. 30 days under home monitoring…BFD.
