File, Star-Tribune

JACKSON — Hunting’s return to the landscape slashed the number of wolves in Wyoming last year, though not to the degree wildlife managers sought.

Wyoming’s goal was to cut its wolf population by nearly a quarter in places in which the state has control, but only a 16 percent reduction was accomplished. The reason managers missed the mark, Wyoming Game and Fish Department wolf biologist Ken Mills said, is there were more wolves than expected.

  1. Wasn’t this the worst article to read? I couldn’t believe that in 2018 that killing wolves is still being described as ‘retaliation’ for livestock losses. Retaliation sounds like how you would describe an ‘enemy’ – an animal, not another human being, that is only doing what it was made to do, no different than other carnivores. I guess it’s still 1818 in the minds of the lunatic fringe. 😦 And yet, hand holding and coddling of human criminals, and forgiveness instead of ‘retaliation’. Blech.

  2. What’s galling is that we would expect this mindset from Republicans, but we have the Democrats to thank for this too. Thanks a lot! I really do hope that those two from Minnesota and Wisconsin are ‘curbed’ from authoring any more legislation to delist wolves there, otherwise why vote Democrat?

  3. Thank you! Here’s what I meant about a Democratic senator from WI. She’s a co-author of a delisting bill that will try to pull the same stunt that Jon Tester and Mike Simpson did in the Rockies – delist without the possibility of judicial review!

I was shocked to find that several environmental groups have endorsed her for 2018 as well. I hope she has reconsidered her position, or if these bills are just sitting around waiting to be acted upon at some date in the future. Get rid of them!

“These bills delist wolves in the Western Great Lakes and specifically state, “Such reissuance shall not be subject to judicial review.””
