  1. DOI says that over the years of 2011 – 2016
Wildlife watching +20 % from 71.8 million to 86 million participants.
Hunters and Anglers participants are 47.3 million participants
    Wildlife watchers spent $75.9 billion
Hunters and anglers spent $71.7 billion

    Angling +8 % from 31.8 million to 35.8 million
Spending for angling +2 percent from $45 billion to $46.1 billion.
Hunting -2 million participants, 11.5 million hunters.
Spending for hunting -29 % from $36.3 billion to $25.6 billion.
Taxidermy and camping equipment experienced a +27-percent uptick; and hunting trip-related expenses increased 15 percent.

While the number of hunters/anglers are still too high, the number of wildlife watchers beat them handily.
