An illegal lobster trap has been discovered at platypus hot spot Fernglade Reserve in Burnie.

The trap was discovered on Sunday night by a tourist and sparked a joint investigation involving Tasmania Police, Parks and Wildlife Service and Inland Fisheries Service.

The discovery follows more than 100 hours of work by volunteer group Friends of Fernglade to rescue an injured platypus with a cord wrapped around its body.

Greens candidate for Braddon Scott Jordan isn’t a member of Friends of Fernglade but he was looking for the injured platypus on Sunday.

He said he felt “disbelief” when he saw the lobster trap.

  1. What do these hunters, trappers and fishermen care? It is really shocking just how little they dolcare, and only care about themselves. Lobstermen along the North Atlantic are pissed now that there’s a continuing moratorium on lobstering while the right whales are still here. Thank goodness! Whining about their livelihoods. Once summer rolls around they will be making money, but there’s never an amount of money that satisfies some people.

    I heard a funny the other day – ‘let me play a sad song on the world’s smallest piano’! Plunkety-plunk.

    Other good news! Nero the dog who was shot along with a policeman by a low-life has recovered beautifully. He looks great!
