THE POINT: Scientists have observed industry data is often at odds with atmospheric measurements.

Reducing carbon emissions is paramount if we are to mitigate climate change.

But so, too, is the need to reduce methane emissions. A recent study led by the Environmental Defense Fund and published in the journal “Science,” serves as a stark reminder of how much work remains on that front. The study found the U.S. oil and gas industry is emitting 13 million metric tons of methane each year from operations. That’s 60 percent more than estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Methane is a primary component of natural gas. It can trap heat at a significantly higher rate than carbon dioxide. While carbon dioxide will linger in the atmosphere for thousands of years…

  1. Too many humans doing too many destructive things–eating up the Earth. Methane emissions are very volatile compounds, with one of the worst global concentrations of it right in the Four Corners Regions of the Southwest–which has been see from space. With the extreme temperatures and regional weather “events” around the world, including the U.S. it seems apparent that the planet is already in the deep throws of Hospice. Even if we somehow totally stopped all our human activities immediately–such as logging, mining, war, grazing, breeding, ocean dumping of plastics and other human waste, development, the negative feed-back loop is already in motion, and will not be stopped by all of Humpty-Dumpty’s technological fixes.
What does all this mean? It means rapid extinctions of many species, forests, more & bigger forest fires, increasing wars, fascist governments (which will increase their control of the masses), more religiosity, less civil liberty.
Some of us can certainly try and help as many wild places as we can, to give remaining wild species some chance, in some places to survive. If you have any acres, please put food and water out for wildlife, despite what Game Agencies tell us. Put it out away from your house, if possible. Bears are coming down from the mountains in The West in search of very scare water and food. Many are dying on the roads, trying to cross. And, if you are considering breeding–please do not. It is a selfish desire, bringing any human into this world now. Don’t use any pesticides, herbicides, or rodent traps. Just learn to live with local non-humans.
