State officials ordered the lethal removal of wolves from the Togo pack in northeast Washington on Monday. However, environmental groups quickly filed a lawsuit temporarily blocking the action.
The order comes after six documented cattle depredations in the past 10 months by the Togo pack. Three of those cattle kills occurred within the past 30 days. The most recent documented depredation occurred two weeks ago when one or more wolves injured a calf on a U.S. Forest Service grazing allotment in Ferry County, according to a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife news release.

Exposing the Big Game 
Whew! From what I have read, there are only two known members of this pack, and, they say, an unknown number of pups. So there would be no such thing as incremental removal – the entire pack would be destroyed, especially if they take out the leaders. They say any methods would be humane – aerial assault, poisoning, trapping do not sound the least bit humane.
Naturally, with no cutoff point, the number of cows will continue to rise. It only sounds like the bare minimum effort to prevent depredation was done also.
Big doings coming up for the end of August – grizzly hunt yay or nay, and the poor Togo pack’s fate. I hope they both are decided in favor of the animals.
