Wyoming wildlife officials say we may never know why a grizzly bear and her cub killed a hunting guide in an unusual and unprovoked attack in the wilderness near Yellowstone National Park.

Authorities on Thursday formally closed the investigation after forensic testing confirmed the two bears, which were killed by wildlife officers, were the ones that fatally mauled guide Mark Uptain and injured his client northeast of Jackson Hole on Sept. 15.

  1. That is such BS, but what else can you expect from Wyoming. They were returning to find an elk they had killed or wounding the day before, thereby losing claim to a grizzly and cub in the area, so encroaching on a disputed kill. There was probably the element of surprise of a grizzly sow with cub, claiming an elk kill, so defensive response, a cub, surprise. Then there was also territoriality, encroachment on the grizzlies in defense of a kill and sow in defense of a cub, in defense of territory and surprise. Are the Wyoming wildlife official stupid, in denial, defending a good old boy guide?

  2. Bears don’t always behave they way they should.

The very idea blows my mind. They should have a standard of nonviolent behavior for when human beings invade their habitat or attract them by leaving food or parts of other animals or a trail of blood that attracts them? Maybe shouldn’t even misbehave if they’re the target?

A prime example of anthropocentric idiocy. An excuse for more revenge killing. The human community can have closure now. Two bears paid with their lives.
