Coyote killing competitions, where contestants vie to shoot the most animals, are held throughout the U.S. But some hunting groups are denouncing these events as unethical, and states from New Mexico to New York are considering bans on these and other wildlife killing contests.
The sponsors of the killing contests wrongly argue that these events help prevent coyotes from taking livestock and deer.
You may legally kill most “varmints” whenever you want and in any quantity you want. And, because few of these animals are officially designated as “game,” hunting regulations prohibiting “wanton waste” don’t apply — you can just let them rot where they drop. Bounties are even paid on coyotes by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and certain counties in Virginia and Texas.

No more compromise, they’ve already had too much. If they want to manage wolves, killing derbies have to go.
Talking isn’t working. Believe me, if I thought the kumbaya approach would work, I’d be the most obsequious ass-kisser ever. But pro-wildlife side is the only side that ever compromises.
The HSUS has an expose video of one of these sacrileges in Oregon. I couldn’t watch more than the first couple of seconds, dragging the dead by the leg and tossing them out of the back of pickup trucks like trash.
I don’t know what kind of society allows such a thing. For our own human vermin, we lavish nothing but kindness and forgiveness. It truly makes me feel like vomiting. You wonder what kind of woman would marry a creature like this, and breed with him.
I have a great idea – Slash and Smash Pickup Truck Derby – while these idiots are whooping it up killing coyotes, smash windshields and slash tires of those expensive gas guzzlers they like to drive. 😉
If only – and then they could all pose for grinning selfies and post them.
But seriously, I know that NM has just banned these monstrosities, VT and CA have too – and I hope Governor Brown’s office in OR is flooded with letters demanding a stop to this barbarism. There is a bill pending to ban them too.
