MADISON, Wis. (MEDIA RELEASE) — Four men — Robert Peters, 53, Turtle Lake, Wisconsin; Steven Reindahl, 55, Turtle Lake; David Johnson, 31, Barnes, Wisconsin; and Darren Johnson, 52, Deer Park, Wisconsin — were sentenced Tuesday, Feb. 25 in federal court in Madison.

The defendants were convicted of crimes related to an illegal 2017 mountain lion hunt in Montana, in violation of the Lacey Act, and conspiring to obstruct a 2018 federal grand jury investigation.

Magistrate Judge Stephen L. Crocker sentenced Peters and Reindahl to two years of probation, David Johnson to a three-year term of probation, and Darren Johnson to a four-year term of probation.   1. It just never ends, does it? Thank goodness they have been caught, and given whatever punishment, however weak. Probation doesn’t sound like much, but they may break if – and then it’s off to jail they go, or fines. This is why I cannot abide lawmaking that assumes people will always do the right thing, and have rights over other living things.

  2. Such as the recent Supreme Court decision on excessive fines. Pretty soon a slap on the wrist and a nominal $1 fine will be the standard, so that our well-behaved and honorable citizens won’t have their inalienable rights infringed upon!
