Montana hunting trio who illegally killed Yellowstone mountain lion left trail of photos on social media
Austin Peterson, Trey Juhnke and Corbin Simmons, convicted for the killing of a mountain lion in Yellowstone National Park, documented their illegal hunt through photos posted to Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. The hunting trio was forced to pay a $1,666 restitution and sentenced to a 3-year worldwide hunting ban.

Why on earth would they do this? I think that is a fatal flaw with some people – they love attention so much that they cannot help themselves and are compelled to post their exploits online – give ’em enough rope, etc.
The fact that it was in Yellowstone National Park tells me that there are more people doing it too. You know what they say with vermin, when you see one there are a lot more that you don’t see.
I’ve always wondered if illegal activity does in fact go on in our National Parks, and now we can see that it does. Especially since our government was dumb enough to allow guns now in National Parks. As long as they are not discharged, what a joke. Willful naivete is not a good idea.
I think this shows the need for renewed calls for a buffer zone around the national parks. This way, there won’t be as much ‘confusion’ as to borders of the parks. 😦
We don’t know how often this kind of thing happens. I know of at least one other recent case, at Grand Teton National Park. The “I didn’t know” defense.
