Hunting and trapping foxes could soon become legal in Madison County. The North Carolina Trappers Association has proposed the change.

The group said regulated trapping protects properties, prevents the spread of diseases and protects animals’ habitats.

But a local animal rights group is concerned about the proposal.

“If you can put a trap out there, that could catch in it a pet dog, a pet cat, children. There’s no reason for it,” said Patricia Ruscoe, of Friends of Madison County Animals.

Madison County commissioners are expected to decide whether or not to adopt the proposal at their Aug. 13 meeting at Asheville–Buncombe Technical Community College.

  1. Trappers are not interested in mange ridden or diseased animals because they can’t sell the pelt.
Protects properties? Try building a better enclosure.

    Sadists the lot of them.

  2. The more overpopulated and the additional stress and strain it puts on wildlife, and yet people still want to trap and hunt like it’s 1899. Just no.
