Man struck by shotgun fire in Wisconsin hunting accident

A day of hunting in Wisconsin went awry after a man was accidently struck by a shotgun blast on Sunday.

Authorities, including the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, the Menomonie Fire Department and the Wisconsin DNR, responded to the 3900 block of 640th Street in Red Cedar at around 10:35 a.m. on Sunday after they received a report of a man shot.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim, a 60-year-old man, was struck after a member of his family set down a shotgun against some brush to tend to a dog. The safety of the gun was reportedly not engaged, and the gun discharged bird shot at the victim after it fell over.

The victim was then flown from the scene in a Mayo helicopter.

Investigation found that the victim was part of a party of four family members who were bird hunting together on a game farm.
