PRATT – Though Kansas coyote hunters can already hunt at night year-round without the aid of lights, a new proposal will be discussed at the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) Commission’s June 25 virtual meeting that would allow the use of lights, night vision, and thermal imaging to hunt coyotes.

Parties interested in commenting on this proposal may do so by participating in the meeting through Zoom (details here: https://ksoutdoors.com/KDWPT-Info/Commission/Past-and-Future-Meetings) or emailing Commissioners directly (contact information here: https://ksoutdoors.com/KDWPT-Info/Commission/Contact-Commissioners).

  1. Message: As if these animals didn’t suffer enough from virtually unregulated hunting, to allow night hunting with lights and thermal imaging is unconscionable The new breed of predator hunters in no way resembles subsistence food hunting they are a mob mentality and delight in killing for killing No method is too unsavory… gut shooting animals to see them suffer , contests to kill the smallest biggest the most, luring one parent out to kill the others, trapping , snaring , bludgeoning and in some states running them over It’s become a sick twisted arm of hunting that ethical hunters object to And wildlife lovers and scientists bemoan I’m Sickened by this proposal Just do a little research online and see the twisted mindset of predator hunters And then visit sites like eastern coyote Reserach or project coyote and learn a little about these amazing animals or look to the North American model of conservation And understand why coyote hunting is such an appalling “ sport” The animals mate for life They are shy and generally stick to large areas and are self limited by prey and habitat Yet they are persecuted mercilessly and slandered by livestock producers who would sanitize the land of any predators rather than take measures to protect their animals or practice wildlife friendly policies It’s 2020 we can and must do better than this in a world that is entering a sixth extinction event I’m appalled Louise Kane, JD Please forward to the rest of the commissioners I do not have their addresses
