WASHINGTON ISLAND (WLUK) — A hunter died over the weekend after an apparent accidental shooting on Washington Island.

Washington Island police say a report was received shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday of a hunter who had been shot on the north end of the island.

A preliminary investigation found that the hunter appeared to be leaving his blind and accidentally shot himself.

The hunter, identified as 65-year-old Steven Hoogester of West Bend, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
