A hunter was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to multiple violations in federal court in Alexandria.

Aaron St. Pierre, 27, was sentenced to five years of unsupervised probation and a $4,550 fine for the hunting violations. His hunting privilegesand access to all national wildlife refuges weresuspended for five years.

The violations were uncovered during an investigation into illegal hunting on a closed area of the Lake Ophelia National Wildlife Refuge in Avoyelles Parish.

St. Pierre, who is from Montz in St. Charles Parish, pleaded guilty earlier this month to hunting in a closed area,unlawful taking of a whitetail deer, use of trail cameras,

  1. These violations and hand-slapping punishments are just the tip of the iceberg among this murderous, cowardly lot.

  2. Wildlife refuges should be off limits to hunting, period. You’re always going to have poachers, but legal hunting does nothing to change that, in fact you have losses due to hunting *and* poaching.

    I don’t know why it is allowed, and even furthered, by both political parties, to win points I guess.
