I am writing in response to the author of the guest opinion in your (March 27) paper entitled “End wildlife killing contests in Pennsylvania”.

There are not thousands of coyotes, foxes and other wildlife being brutally slaughtered in wildlife contests.I have hunted my entire life. I trapped for 20 years.I don’t know anyone out of a huge group of hunters in the state of Pennsylvania who does not value the wildlife and the part the animals play in our ecosystem.

I would have to say that the majority of the wildlife the author references are taken legally via firearms or trapped. This would go on even if there were no contests. But if we entertain the idea of eliminating these contests, we would have to eliminate the buck contests during buck season and bear contests during bear season. The…
