“Tragically?” Was he playing a role in a play? He went into the woods with others, all with the hope that some animal would die that day. Seems more like comedy, or even farce, the way their hopes were fulfilled. In Act II, we see the grieving widow at the wake, when several of the deceased’s buddies stagger out drunk to do a bit of possum shootin’ in the dark. More hilarious chaos ensues. In Act III, a small insurance check arrives, and we see the widow with a complete makeover, a new car, and on her way to a new life. Definitely comedy.
