  1. Why are they “extremists”!”? Predators do not need to be hunted for control (hunter mythology). Predators will manage their own populations in terms of available prey and elbow room. Hunting is not a legitimate or ethical means to manage wildlife (hunter mythology).

  2. Scientific management of apex carnivores—wolves, bears, mountain lions—in Washington State has, by any independent measure, resulted in hoof rot in elk, and now, CWD in deer. Oh, if only there were some mechanism that could recognize the early stages of these diseases, and that would remove the sick animal from the herd. Hunters, those lead-bullet paragons of conservation and scientific trophy management, have been too slow to detect these diseases, letting them spread before being detected. Perhaps (this Mouse is trying to avoid the trap of thinking inside the box) Fish & Game biologists could use genetics and DNA to create a creature that has claws and teeth, and that would be driven to kill animals that show weaknesses that might propagate through the herd. Of course, this Mouse admits, if it were possible to genetically engineer such a meat-eating creature, Evolution would have done so. One presumes then, all is lost, as wildlife managers have no mechanism for early detection and removal of sick animals.
