Deadly bird flu detected in Kangaroo Island, putting local wildlife at risk – ABC listen
A recent positive result on Kangaroo Island could have serious consequences for the island’s endangered sea lion colony, according to Mayor Michael Pengilly.
Two sick petrels were found at Emu Bay on Kangaroo Island and at Port Vincent on the Yorke Peninsula, the eighth confirmed case of the H5 virus in Australia.
Mayor Pengilly said that residents are used to environmental issues, “it becomes the focal point for anything, everyone’s interested in it and wants to know what’s going on.”
