In December of 2019, Animal Rights activists in the Capital Region of NY caught wind of a local Fire Department’s plans for a Coyote hunt fundraiser intended for Mid January 2020. Alarmed not only for the animals but for the poor example set by an organization whose mission is to save people’s lives, a petition was circulated and numerous activists wrote letters, made phone calls and posted on social media asking the Hancock NY Volunteer Fire Department to reconsider.

Some, like myself, offered to make donations to the FD if they would change their strategy and ensure no animals are harmed. The correlation between violence toward animals and other forms of violence including child abuse and domestic violence has been established repeatedly.

While one could make the claim that this is different, it is cultural or…

Forecasters warn of unpredictability, weather ‘chaos’ as El Niño develops

A developing El Niño is already dramatically influencing Earth’s weather, scrambling precipitation patterns and boosting temperatures higher and higher. Forecasters say it’s only a matter of time before El Niño’s arrival is official, and there is concern it could incite unprecedented extreme weather.Best Property Management & Listing Tool of 2022 - Advertise, Lease, Resourc

Scientists don’t yet know how strong this El Niño will become, and its intensity will have big implications for where extreme weather occurs and its severity. But they do know it’s arriving amidthe highest ocean temperatures in modern records.

Jennifer Francis, a climate scientist at the Woods Hole Research Center, warned in a recent podcastto “expect chaos,” especially if this El Niño turns out strong.

Sailor’s boat ‘thrown around like a rag doll’ in another killer whale attack

A British sailor has told of the terrifying moment his boat was attacked by a group of killer whales off the coast of Gibraltar.

Captain Iain Hamilton was sailing on Friday, when a group of five killer whales, also known as orcas, staged what he described as a ‘choreographed’ assault on his boat.

The 60-year-old believes they were actually ‘playing with the rudders and just inadvertently rendered the boat very vulnerable and in a very dangerous situation’.

He first noticed a fin and then a ‘light bump’ which turned into a ‘very big bump’ from a whale trying to bite the rudder.

The captain told BBC Radio 4: ‘To begin…

Hundreds of warplanes burn on the tarmac of airbases in Japan and Guam. Over a hundred large warships strung across the sea floor of the Taiwan Strait and Western Pacific beyond. Tens of thousands of lives were lost in just a few weeks of violence.

Wargame for Taiwan

This was the outcome of a series of wargames undertaken by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), simulating an amphibious landing operation in Taiwan by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in 2026. The games’ design and outcomes are detailed in areportback in Janyary by retired Marine colonel Mark Cancian and researchers Matthew Cancian and Eric HeginbothamBest Property Management & Listing Tool of 2022 - Advertise, Lease, Resourc

A bull elk with velvet still on it's antlers grazes near Madison in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.

Yellowstone National Park officials are once again asking tourists not to interfere with wildlife after a group of visitors took a newborn elk in their car and drove it to the police station on Memorial Day weekend. “Visitors placed an elk calf in their car while likely driving on U.S. Highway 191 in the park and brought the newborn to the West Yellowstone, Montana, Police Department,” officials said in a statement, reported Friday by Outsider. “The elk [calf] later ran off into the forest and its condition is unknown.” It’s the second reported interaction between tourists and the park’s wildlife recently. Last week, the seemingly well-intentioned Yellowstone visitor who moved a baby bison—which later had to be euthanized after it was rejected from its herd—pleaded guilty to disturbing wildlife. Now, Yellowstone is once again reminding visitors to leave wildlife alone. “Approaching wild animals can drastically affect their well-being and, in some cases, their survival,” the park said. “When an animal is near a campsite, trail, boardwalk, parking lot, on a road, or in a developed area, leave it alone and give it space.”

The forty-sixth president was seemingly enjoying a sunny, breezy day at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Wearing the blue Air Force hat, staring blankly at the graduates as they came up to receive their diploma, President Joe Biden looked as though he was overcome by a random though, he pivoted on stage, and went to jog to the other side of the stage, and before he could reach his destination, the forty-sixth president was down on the floor.

More troublingly, Biden couldn’t stand up again. He needed the help of two Secret Service agents and an Air Force officer.

As cameraszoomedin to get a better angle on the fallen president—who was clearly confused and panicked as he could not stand up quickly from the fall—many of the Air…

I’ve been following the painfully (figuratively and literally) laborious process the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department has been rolling out to amend or installAct 159andAct 165laws covering trapping and hunting coyotes with dogs.

Once again, state officials have allowed the public to respond, and although many of us have done this in the past to no avail, I felt compelled…
