The extreme heat wave in the Northwest is beginning to subside in Seattle and Portland, Oregon, but much of the West will continue to deal with baking temperatures as millions remain under heat alerts.Canada and US cities in the Northwest have reported their hottest temperatures on record. More than 52 million people are under a heat warning or advisory from coast to coast.Three potential deaths associated with heat-related illness were reported Sunday and Monday, according to Washington Department of Health spokesman Cory Portner.

While temperatures are likely to let up in the Northeast by Wednesday’s end, the heat is expected to last in the Northwest well into mid-July, CNN’s meteorologist Michael Guy predicted.

MADIKERI: A filmy twist has emerged in a wildlife attack case reported in a village in Kodagu. While the relatives of a man claimed that he was killed in an unprovoked wild boar attack, preliminary investigations indicate he may have been involved in hunting, along with a few others. The investigations revealed that the body of the victim was shifted from inside the forest area to an estate property – to cover up the hunters’ footfalls.

      • It has not visited the solar system in more than 3 million years.

Record-breaking temperatures have soared well past 100 degrees across the Pacific Northwest, where the area is trapped beneath a blistering “heat dome.”

In a region where average temperatures are closer to the 70s this time of year, houses can be seen with blacked-out windows covered with blankets to help with the heat. The area’s normally mild summers mean many households don’t have air conditioning.

The historic heatwave is bringing with it fears about what could follow over the rest of this summer.

Records set one day have been broken the next.

Records have been shattered daily in parts of the Northwest, including Portland and Seattle. Portland broke records three days in a row, hitting 108 on Saturday, 112 on Sunday and then 116 on Monday.

In some places, the heat is so intense it has even melted power cables. In downtown Portland, the Portland Streetcar service shut down on Sunday, posting a picture on Twitter of a power cable with a hole burnt into it.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-0&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3R3ZWV0X2VtYmVkX2NsaWNrYWJpbGl0eV8xMjEwMiI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJjb250cm9sIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1409287314870837253&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2F2021%2F06%2F29%2F1011269025%2Fphotos-the-pacific-northwest-heatwave-is-melting-power-cables-and-buckling-roads&sessionId=deb41b30f23f0ffcedc3b5b6fc2422fcca1e9f41&siteScreenName=NPR&theme=light&widgetsVersion=82e1070%3A1619632193066&width=550px

Roads have buckled under the heat in Portland

Pacific Northwest infrastructure is cracking — literally — under the pressure. In Everson, Wash., temperatures have caused the pavement to soften and expand. This can create rutting, buckling, and potholes, particularly in high-traffic areas.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-1&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3R3ZWV0X2VtYmVkX2NsaWNrYWJpbGl0eV8xMjEwMiI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJjb250cm9sIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1409353691287592970&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2F2021%2F06%2F29%2F1011269025%2Fphotos-the-pacific-northwest-heatwave-is-melting-power-cables-and-buckling-roads&sessionId=deb41b30f23f0ffcedc3b5b6fc2422fcca1e9f41&siteScreenName=NPR&theme=light&widgetsVersion=82e1070%3A1619632193066&width=550px

Drought has created a vicious dry cycle

Widespread drought extending from the West and all the way into the Great Plains has only worsened under the heat dome. In the Northwest, a typically wet area, abnormally dry and drought conditions have expanded in a matter of weeks. On June 22, the U.S. Drought Monitor reported 79.8% of the region was in drought just ahead of the fire season.Article continues after sponsor messagehttps://cc9142cbd1644918619c7eb6164d3215.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

Human Provides Bear Family with Hammock, So They Can Chill Out When They Visit Her Yard

      byRoss Young4 days ago

You would think most people would be terrified if a family of black bears regularly visited their back yard. But Amy was thrilled when she noticed that the bears loved exploring her garden.

Instead of chasing them away, Amy decided to add some items to her garden that the bears could play on. Every day, Amy would leave some surprises out for them, to see how they would respond.

The bears loved playing in the bath water left out for them, as well as the associated toys [including a giant rubber duck!].

After seeing them play with balls and other items, Amy had a bit of a crazy idea: she would buy a hammock and see…

Ready to fry up a mess of frog legs? Missouri’s frogging season begins June 30 at sunset. The season runs through Oct. 31, and those with a fishing permit or small-game hunting permit may frog for bullfrogs and green frogs.

The daily limit is eight frogs of both species combined and the possession limit is 16 frogs of both species combined. Only the daily limit may be possessed on waters and bank of waters where frogging.

MDC notes that daily limits end at midnight. Froggers who catch their daily limits before midnight and want to return for more frogging after midnight must remove the daily limit of previously caught frogs from the waters or banks before returning.

The public can go frogging with a fishing or small-game hunting permit, but children 15 and under and residents 65-years and older are not required to have a permit.

      Ways To Catch A Frog

Those using a fishing permit may take frogs by hand, hand net, atlatl, gig, bow, trotline, throwline, limb line, bank line, jug line, snagging, snaring, grabbing, or pole and line. Youth fishing without a permit are limited to using a pole-and-line, gig, bow, crossbow, snaring, grabbing, and snagging.

With a small-game hunting permit, frogs may be harvested using a .22-caliber or smaller rimfire rifle or pistol, pellet gun, atlatl, bow, crossbow, or by hand or hand net. The use of artificial light is permitted when frogging.

The mostextreme heat waveever recorded in the Pacific Northwest continues to shatter records for another day. Millions of people are currently under excessive heat warnings — many of them sweltering through triple-digit temperatures without air conditioning in a region that usually enjoys mild summers.

Behind the misery is a weather phenomenon known as aheat dome.

      What is a heat dome?

A heat dome is a essentially a mountain of warm air built into a very wavy jet stream, with extreme undulations. When the jet stream — a band of strong wind in the upper levels of the atmosphere — becomes very wavy and elongated, pressure systems can pinch off and become stalled or stuck in places they typically would not be.https://www.cbsnews.com/newsletters/widget/e879?v=9d3ea23747daf3b68ca7bee91c41f9d0&view=compact#tVPLbtswEPwVgmczpijJknwpUqRAcykCJD3VRUCRy5iNRAkkZTUo8u9d2nKc9tZDb9Ls7GNml7%2FoMEY7uEC3vyioQQPdUqirhq7owcKMf2roR6kiAuMQbCIjeB0CRPJx0C%2F0dUWjl%2BrZuqdUxIZPTrYdaLqNfoIVlT5a1cH1FPeDv0X4GxVC55LXJVNQZawQoFgjoGCgsqLRPNeqFvT7X6lfZA8p%2BQcYQ1rw0mvoOvuOl4pTUdTK1NmGaQ0Sa3PD6kpwJkwOQnIosQl9S7mb2hsZk2jBRcb4homaCL7NN1uxudAebOwSad7LSGwgkuwBv%2FTQwwcCP6OHHkiEfsSx4uQhEOtI3ANB56yxirjBx%2F0MIa6QPnbSOjToUv5lhKPTLoKLjwuKcTV0Hajk%2Bck4vpF8wzctA1GWrGiykkmTtUxAJRpV50Ybkwy55J1dU53tUShRe%2BmeIHE0HKw6t9YQnuMwYksbbuCQ%2FEgLl09ngoM5PFqUiDBeAXy24FPdKaRaCbk%2FNUQuYidoyUU%2FRjwxewAyQ4sx7GTVcVum4hrqvGWtAMOyDASTueGMiybL6iKrq7I5J5yknKpPAfxSXTpsuqKoz0a6Ld5MvR8mr462toGk8ZHUeun0XSejGXx%2FHACDR2lp3MeLCwHfgtPSvzykziEpDcqCU0fr%2Foze6mO8yjmvcjyiVmQN7qYA1hrZMFNlTW1E05ZlefZqkbI0TwJBdnbq0wMa%2FWBs9y6cEpACLq0Fozo9OZVkWyW7r75DeB%2FjGLa79W49z%2FPVkniFT3e3Tl8I4%2BUyG1i6W5buli2nyd5Oc7deVv4fSi6C%2Fy319fU3
