Duck Dynasty’s Evil is Spreading

Some folks may be wondering why we let ourselves get worked up over a stupid faux “reality” TV show like Duck Dynasty; what harm are they doing by showing their hairy mugs for money and attention (and a lot of both). Well, I’ll tell you what’s wrong with it: their idiocy seems to be catching.

In all the years I’ve lived by this waterfowl wintering area, people have been respectful of the No Hunting Access sign. Now you find spent shotgun shells along the road overlooking the bay–a sure sign that bozo Robertson wanna-bes are shooting out at ducks who take refuge in the calm waters there.

And just today a boat full of duck hunters motored their boat through a flock of 100

trumpeter swans, driving them across the river to an island infested with hunters shooting from their duck blinds.

It only takes a few boneheads to ruin it for everyone–especially if they have their own TV show.

  1. These people are disgusting. Which is exactly what I told my nephew and his son who are teaching their beautiful little daughter/granddaughter to hunt. One can’t choose ones
family members but I’ve chosen to have nothing more to do with them.

  2. Jim, if you happen to get a boat number and photo, you can report the driving or harassment of birds in any form, which is illegal. Of course, we know what the chances are of follow up. I get so disheartened by the likes of Duck Dynasty, by the foodies who think hunting is a “sustainable” fabulous thing to do, etc.

    • Good point, Ingrid, but like you say, enforcement and the fact that they will just claim they didn’t intend to drive the birds would make prosecution unlikely in this case. You’re right to be disheartened by the popularizing influence of the likes of DD over the ignorant as well as the foodies, who should know better.

  3. I’ve never watched this program but I could gather what it is about from the camo and title! You really have to also blame the rich producers of ‘reality’ programs like this, laughing all the way to the bank and who take no responsibility for their ‘product’ in the real world.

  4. It is these self-aggrandizing dimwits who contribute heavily to the dumb downing of Americans, which isn’t difficult to begin with. And worse, they’re gaining converts at an incredible rate. I know. I work in Kentucky where it is beyond epidemic.

    • Someone must be making money off the spread of War on Wildlife, and it’s not just the SAD (“Self-Aggrandizing Dimwits”–good one, by the way). The war profiteers are cashing in on a peacetime war. against wildlife.

  5. No ducks around my place, but it is infested with psycho-murderers and torturers much more than it used to be. Spreading indeed.

  8. So true, and what I see is a serious plan to bring back hunting just as it was dying out, we suddenly get a surge of new Bass stores, new programs in F&W agencies to increase hunting opportunities in church groups, as well as this and other dumb ass shows and they are working hard to change in laws to keep us quiet. The NRA and the Safari Club have been very busy with their heavy handed campaigns, this is a serious attack on anti-hunting efforts, we have to stop being so naïve, complacent and quiet. Even many of Wildlife advocate groups are still negotiating with the hunters that end up lying and doing whatever the hell they want, no matter how many people tell them no. This stuff is really, really corrupt, I wish I had an agency backing me and some other serious anti’s, we are losing the war.

  9. Dominique, you are so correct about this terrible situation. Unfortunately, as you said, too many of the Wildlife Groups are working with hunters,( and even have hunters on their staff.) I do believe this is why the hunting/trapping industry is gaining more popular support these days. Now, with the horrendous “Sportsmen’s (Bipartisan) Act” more hunting, trapping and other assaults on wildlife will continue. It has sailed through Congress. Even groups that claim to be for “wilderness, wildlife,” etc., were pushing to add an amendment for wilderness onto this terrible anti-wildlife legislation. You are right that too many are complacent, naive…They are also too interested in compromising with this Enemy. The Hunter/Trapper Industry is also aligned with the Livestock Industry–and often many of these people are one and the same. Consequently, the wild animals and their habitat are losing–fast.
